Setting up a Space Engineers server

Join your server

The first start downloads Space Engineers from Steam, so it takes a few minutes. Watch the Console tab. When it stops scrolling, your server is ready.

In the game, choose Join Game, then Servers, and search for your name.

The basic settings

SettingWhat it does
Server NameThe name in the list.
Game ModeSurvival or Creative.
Maximum PlayersHow many can join.
Enable Experimental ModeMust be true for mods.
Leave World Name alone

Changing it stops the server starting.

Bring your own world

  1. Find your world in %appdata%\SpaceEngineers\Saves.
  2. Stop the server.
  3. Replace the contents of config/Saves/World with your world.

Be an admin

Add your Steam ID64 to <Administrators> in config/SpaceEngineers-Dedicated.cfg. In game, press Alt+F10.

Problems

It will not start

Check the uploaded world is complete.

Mods do not load

Turn on Enable Experimental Mode.

Lag with many ships

Use block limits and turn off in-game scripts.
