Setting up a Garry's Mod server

Join your server

The first start downloads Garry's Mod from Steam, so it takes a few minutes. Watch the Console tab. When it stops scrolling, your server is ready.

In the game, press ~ and type:

Console
connect your.server.address:port

Get a Steam token

Needed to show in the server browser.

  1. Go to steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers.
  2. Use App ID 4000.
  3. Paste the token into Steam Account Token on the Startup tab.

Add content

Make a Workshop collection and put its number in Workshop ID on the Startup tab. Players download it when they join.

Problems

Not in the browser

Add a Steam token for App ID 4000.

Purple and black textures

Add the missing content to your Workshop collection.

Gamemode does not load

The name must match its folder.
